The New Toy | Having got a new toy in the shape of a pulsar Challenger GS 1x20 with DSA and N1000AP IR Laser for the tidy price of £315 on the BBS (only 6 months old, and managed to register the 3 year warrantee :toast: ) I've been itching to give it a go.

Initially impressed off the gun it did take a bit of adjustment when fitted to the mamba, something which is never in the typical useless manual and has you scratching your head for a while... after a bit of a search and a play on the kitchen table the solution: the fast focus needs to be turned out almost fully (5.5 turns out of 6 roughly) for the mamba.

This then brings the crosshairs nicely into focus, although it isn't possible to use the illuminated ret due to what could be described as a repeated or perhaps ghost ret although it is not needed as the IR Laser certainly is powerful.

With the focus on flood and max power, the mamba with 10x mag can easily achieve 70/80yards clearly, focus the beam such that it fills only the eye piece and not the surrounding area and this range dramatically increases... found myself turning the lasers power down at 30-45yards.

The Shoot | Having seen almost everything, including 2 much jack deer's (10 yards - running towards me), 3 foxes (15/20 yards) and next doors cats... alas no rabbits... until one bravely ventured out amongst the activities  . Shot at 45 yards after which it went quiet until the rain arived, at which point I called it quits.

Gun is an AAS410k .177 walnut stock with MTC Mamba 4-16X50 RIR SCB, Pulsar Challenger GS 1x20 with DSA and N1000AP IR laser (rear), also has the LedRay Tactical 400(front)

These are a great bit of kit once you get used to them . Personally ide look for a short scope , like a Mini Swat scope , and then put a butt extension pad on , as it would make shouldering it easier . Nice going , and as usual , the S410 does the job , Buster

I thought that initially when looking at these add-ons (perhaps a viper/connect) however its easily shouldered as is and could be shot standing, although notice the Mamba could go forward a good inch on the mounts which when shouldered would give about 2" on the cheek piece (despite looking not looking that way) add a slip over extension to the mix and that could easily increase.

The difficulty (for the non popeye'd of us) is the weight :icon_redface:

Well-done Charlie, see you got itchy fingers and could not wait for (night site ) haha .Off on hols for a week and when I get back I'm getting night vision sorted .ATB

Indeed still concerned over their bold claims when compared to say a Pulsar n550 who's CCD I can't seem to get my hands on vs the somewhat bog standard Sony CCD they seem to be using. And for their top end model at £600 this certainly takes the biscuit at half the price with what I expect to be better performance. I'l bring it along for the meet :good:
