Guest born to run1083
if he was mine, over the next 5 months i'd more concentrate on field craft and things like that, over that period between 5 months - 10 months of age i was taking my pup just on the lead watching older dogs and when season finished correcting things like fences in the dark and took her favourite toy and made her lamp that so to speak and same throwing a tennis ball in the lamp and so on . so when the times right for him to be activley running on the lamp all the other bits are spot on and he knows what to expect. so when hes ready you can purely concentrate on putting quarry infront of him and thats where you see the last few months really paying off. hope this helps Quote Link to post
DogMagic 461
At 5 months old he is only a baby mate. He is nothing like mature enough for anything other than play. His little brain, bones and muscles will all still be weak. If you want to take him ferreting (to nets) then by all means do it but dont let him chase yet. By the end of the winter i might consider deliberately leaving one or two holes unnetted so he has a chance of a chase but expect him to miss any bolters. You will never f**k a dog up by entering it late but you will f**k every single one up by entering it to early. 1 Quote Link to post
