skycat 6,174 Posted July 21, 2011 Report Share Posted July 21, 2011 The idea behind cutting the claw right back to the toe is so that there is no pressure on the damaged joint when the dog stands on it. By the time the claw has grown back the toe is hopefully healed. I've done this many times and it usually works BUT only if there is no significant damage to the toe bones and the ligaments are not actually ruptured. Quote Link to post
