Col_c88 41
I got my 2 hobs castrated friday gone and have been putting them in the pen together every dya since to see what happens. Ive got them in now, but I cant actually tell if their fighting, playing, or just showing which is boss... I wouldnt be so concerned but their stitches are still showing so trying to be a bit more careful, I need to know so that I know if they can live together and I can open the top hutch to the kits or if I should still keep them seperate.. One of the ferrets is very "vocal" even when working, and hes making alot of otter like sounds I guess,, dunno if this means hes happy or what.. Like I say ive had to keep them apart from getting them so I really have no experience in the difference between playful and not.. thanks for any help Quote Link to post

I think a month but don't hold me to it. If they are already together and no blood has been drawn I'd just have a look at them daily. I wouldn't risk letting them in with kits but it depends on the size of the kits and how aggressive the hobs are. How old are the hobs? Have they been with kits before? Quote Link to post
Col_c88 41
Their 1 year old, they actually dont bite the kits the kits climb all over them they just sniff.. but start getting rough after a bit. Im not having the jill kits and hobs together in the hutches, just the outside pen.. I figured their hormones would still be busy and have been told this but like I say, I just cant tell weather the fighting, showing dominence or playing.. At the moment I have all of them except the 2 kits seperated.. Quote Link to post

At the moment I have all of them except the 2 kits seperated.. They are still young yet then. Playing can easily turn to fighting and worse case death. Better to not risk it, just give it a month and they should be completely healed by then too. That noise your ferret makes is called dooking it means it is excited and playing. A hissing sound usually means a fight but they even do that in play sometimes. Believe me if your ferrets were trying to hurt each other you would know it. Good luck with you bunch. Col_c88 41
I had the 2 hobs together in the pen whilest writing this.. went out after typing it they were rolling all over looked very vicious..... now they are just kind of ignoring each other, I'll keep an eye on them for a little while longer see what happens. Theres no blood so gonna say it was rough playing but we'll see Thanks Quote Link to post
Col_c88 41
Never mind, I split them up, even though they were making that "Dooking" sound it looked a bit mental and they were really ragging each other about lol... defintly need to figure out whats going on... Good job they never bite me I just stick me hand in the pen in the middle of them and they stop. Quote Link to post
Kay 3,709
If there spitting fury rolling round in a ball separate them, but they do play rough dragging each other round , usually if the play gets rough the one on the receiving end usually lets there scent glands go & that normally forces a separation Quote Link to post
