the footie pitch

Recommended Posts

well, i havent done any snaring for months and after a couple of blank attemps threw them in the cupboard and sulked.

On thursday a guy at skittles told me his footie pitch was getting smashed, so being the nice bloke i am offerd him a hand, GET IN!

With no warrens to be seen with thick foliage and only the size of two pitches, ruled out the dogs and ferrets and even lamping as im not one for hiding in a bush for hours.

Only one thing for it as i blew the dust of the snares, i only took three with me and banged them into some runs in and out of some thick cover on friday nite, saturday morning nothing, the same story in the evening then this morning a nice fat buck swiftly located by the dog in the last snare i checked, cleanly caught around the neck and nice and cold from the night before. A big grin appeard on my face as i had broken my crap streak of snaring.

The two snares that blanked were set on small beats with quite big loops maybe 6 or 7 inches off the deck one was knocked the other exactly how i left it, the one that caught was set between beets over a tuft of grass the bottom of the wire 2 ish inches above the tuft again with quite a large loop.

Of out in a bit to peg down all ten snares i have, wondering weather to stick with what caught or mix it up a bit as it may have been luck rather than skill.

What do you guys recon?

Thanks for reading

shot one last nite, another in the snares this morning so i'll just keep plugging away at them until the jobs done, leaving a few to ferret this season ofcourse
