I'm not American but we had a wolf hybrid as a pet. Not all people with hybrids are stupid (tho I confess I have my moments )

We got ours from a native reserve in Northern Ontario. We didn't go looking for her, she picked out my step dad as her human and that was it. He was camping there, as he was close to the natives and spent a lot of time with them. They had their pack of dogs, who bred as and when, and that pup decided she wanted to be with him so he let her.

She was an infinitely interesting creature. Very hard to train in some ways. But we took her for what she was, and treated her in a way that she understood. We didn't expect her to be a pet in the typical sense and she most surely wasn't. Great hunter, that dog. Very loyal, very athletic, very intense. She was, simply, like no other animal.

I don't agree with the breeding of hybrids for pet purposes, not at all. We tripped into having ours, and did our best by her, and she was a happy well loved animal. But they aren't for the faint hearted. And there are enough over bred pets without purposely breeding an animal that is mostly wild and adding that into the mix
