lurcher330 2,301
just wondering has anyone ever taken on a dog that quit and has eventually turn back on .I was out digging with a couple of lads a few seasons back and one of them had a collie/greyhound x bull/greyhound dog out with them and when we dug to the fox the dog would'nt pull it out of stop end and the lad said right that was his last chance thats the second time in a row he,s done that but when we got the fox out he destroyed it but this lad wanted a drawing dog so on the way home i offered him a few quid for the dog and brought him home but he would,nt settle with the other dogs in my yard so another mate of mine took him instead he was great on the lamp on deer and fox and was great out bushing with the other dogs just could,nt be penned with anything. we did,nt ask him to draw anything for the rest of the season and then at the start of last season we had him out during a dig and when we broke through he burst passed us nearly taken my foot and terrier when he dived into the hole but when we lifted the terrier and let him in he was like a demon to climb into the hole straight into the fox lifted it and killed it on the sod and he has'nt looked back since. Has given a dog another chance and it came good YIS Lurcher 330 Edited June 10, 2011 by lurcher330 1 Quote Link to post

Cold Ethyl 63
Sometimes its the owner thats the problem. If you dont put the effort into the dog or the dog doesnt trust you then things dont go well.Well done on your mate for clearly putting the time into the dog and getting him back on track Quote Link to post
Guest born to run1083
Most problems in a dog with the correct owner and the relevant time spent with a dog problems most time can be rectified, most are to impatient with dogs and expect things to happen over night. I recon the only thing that can't be put or retrained into a dog is heart, they either have it or not Quote Link to post

Ideation 8,217
It happens mate, and it's not ALWAYS the owner. A mate of mine had a saluki/grey x whippet pre-ban. Had tried her on a few foxes and she just wasn't interested, didn't like the idea of being bitten. One night, out with someone else, they saw a fox, and the other guy slipped his mutt, and asked my friend to slip his, the other guys mutt f****d up as the fox jumped a ditch and missed it, and my mates bitch (at the age of 5) got over the ditch, caught foxy and killed it. Did another that night a lone as well. No one was more surprised than the dogs owner. Funny things dogs. Quote Link to post
