Donalda 0
I've just joined this forum as I've recently bought a lurcher pup. She is now 16 weeks old, 3/4 greyhound - 1/4 deerhound. I'm not actually planning to work her (her parents are both working dogs) - she is primarily a pet - but I hope some people here will be able to give me good advice on her training and development. One thing I've noticed over the last couple of days is that the way she holds her ears has changed. Instead of them being at the sides of her head, she is holding them quite erect and close together, so the overall effect is more like a GSD than a lurcher. Is this quite normal? I'm sure it's not doing her any harm, but it's taking a bit of getting used to as she looks like another dog! I have her on a BARF diet as she always had loose stools when I had her on dried food. It's costing a fortune and I'd love to be able to get her out catching some rabbits, but she has no recall at the moment. Also, she is not housetrained but usually goes to the same place in the house to 'do her business'. I know it seems like I have a lot of issues and I don't expect answers to all of these, I just thought I'd introduce myself and my gorgeous bitch!

Ideation 8,217
Don't worry about the ears. With regard to house training, you got to keep an eye on her, read her, and get her outside, and then praise her when she is going to toilet outside. Also a wee scolding when she pisses inside, but not too much, and nowt physical, just a little stern word. Recall will come, get her doing it in the house, small amounts and ofte, make it a game with some treats etc, maybe get a whistle. Don't over use her name. I bet money you end up working her

Donalda 0
Thanks for the welcome, guys! This seems like a friendly forum to be on. I'll not worry about her ears - they're cute, anyway and as long as she can hear with them, that's fine by me! I bought her from a guy who bred from his own greyhound and deerhound/grey cross. He was keeping one of the pups for working - almost kept my one, but I'm glad he didn't!
