cameroncharles 2 Posted May 27, 2011 Report Share Posted May 27, 2011 Hi to all members, thanks for looking, After 10 years at my .177 air rifle I'v finally decided to go FAC. Simple reason is I can't keep crawling around for rabbits as nearing 40 with bolts etc in me back. I am hoping there are some local members that use either .22lr or .17hmr as I am keen to actually talk to someone in perosn rather than on the pc. Ideally someone out there may own both and could help steer me through the pro's and con's etc. I moved from 22 to 177 years ago for the flatter traj etc but the FAC side of things is completly new and any help would be appreciated. I live and work in brackley (northants) and would happily travel 20 miles radius to visit anyone who can help explain why hmr over lr. I have 400 acre permission at the mo and am talking to the friendly owner to see how he feels about fac over his land. I cannot keep up with the rabbit population in just 100 acres let alone the rest of it! I definately need to extend my range out past 45yds! I work from home as a carpenter and can visit anytime to anyone who could demo either rifle. Many thanks for reading this far and i look forwards to meeting any local members. I will be more than happy to come up one day and you can try both and I will happily give you my opinion on life the universe and everything. It really is a mind field for myself as I am coming from a quiet s400 .177 and naturally favour the quieter lr but can see the advantage in poi drop on the 17hmr. As i work from my workshop/garage I'm free whenver it suits you best. I am keen to learn more so i can fill out this fac app and chat to me landowner about this! Can i ask how loud is the rapport down range from the hmr? I ask as I've taken to shooting from me 4x4 as the old back is fairly knackered now(diseased) and can't be arsed with crawling to get within 50yds of the rabbits. Really like the idea of stationery rabbiting. One thing I'm trying to find out ( as a lefty) is which rifle can i get thats either ambi or lefty. I'm calling into my local dealer on Monday to see what he has but god is he hard work! DEFINATELY dont like the sound off the lr's reputation for richochets..makes me think the hmr is safer? I shall pm you my mobile and home number and thanks again for your great advice. I too enetered the dark side this winter with a gen1+ nv add on. OMG, I was so happy to dump the darn lamp and enjoy the weird green world. Came back with sore eyes as after 4 hours! Really look forwards to meeting up and have a great weekend bud.
