help with internet speed

Dont know much about computers so any advice would be welcome .I have bt broadband and my lad (15) tells me its to slow is there a way of checking and what do i do if it is slower than what i am paying for all the internet sites what me to scan my computer for errors i dont think this is the problem as my lad has his own in his room

Sorry to be the bearer of crap news bt price their plans not on speed at all so even if you like i used to pay for 40mg broadband and you only get 5mg doesnt matter only thing that can change your speed for gaming if thats his thing is to get a game booster and a box from maplins that helps take static of the line or something

BT broadband cuts about 512mb from your linespeed and uses it to make a bt openzone wifi hotspot. It is active by default but you can opt out and make your internet slightly faster.

the usual problem for your browser running slow is what runs in the startup process.

 

go to START

 

then RUN

 

type MSCONFIG ( then press return)

 

when the dialouge box comes up, go to the START UP tab at the top and select disable all, apply then ok......then restart your comp.

 

quickest and easiest thing to try..............also helps if you are using a modern browser like FIREFOX, GOOGLE CHROME or OPERA.
