Can't hit live targets!!!!!!!!!

Hi everyone I have one ridiculous problem with pellets :icon_eek: :icon_eek: . Every one in the forums seems to like RWS superdomes except my BSA Lightning Xl(.177) which like BSA Elite pellets  . I cant get a good group with superdomes or Crosman hollow points. I actually set the scope using Bsa pellets. I can hit a 10p coin at 20mts in 3 out of 5 shots :gunsmilie: :gunsmilie: and the missed ones hitting closely. What if I set the scope aim with superdomes? Please help me out with this.

Also at 20mts if I hit a wood pigeon(at the chest),it simply flies hurt with some feathers down :hmm::cry: . I don't like hurting them as I know they will probably die some where   . In India its a different game :big_boss: :big_boss: where we can go to any field we like and start hunting, but we cant step into others premises without permission here  .

Thank you everyone and happy hunting.

I would suggest you stick with the BSA Elite pellets and keep practising your shooting until all 5 shots are bang on.I would also suggest only taking headshots, this way a good kill is guaranteed. You seem a bit inexperienced so try and find as much information as you can on subjects like..... Airgun laws, what you can shoot etc.

dont worry about it mate. its a hard game. once you find the pellets that your rifle likes you'll soon feel for confident. mine adores aa diablo's.

as for the hunting. pigeon have pretty much bullet proof chests, you need to hit them in the head for a assured kill.

its hard . the amount of pigeons i have tried to get in range to, have flown off. you need to let them come to you. as for shots, consider your angle of fire. if i'm not mistaken, the pellet will hit higher than your cross hair if your aiming over a 45 degree angle.

i know how you feel when its a miss or a hit but not fatal. its not nice. but it happens sometimes. as hunters we just need to try our best to minimize the pain inflicted in hunting. it will be a learning curve. i am zeroed to the point i can hit a 5 p coin at 30 meters yet i still miss sometimes. it happens. no one is perfect and a miss is a lesson learnt.

hope your hunt goes better next time mate.

how do mate!

As previously said, I'd say you need a lot more practice on paper before shooting at live quarry mate. Yes it can be frustrating, but you owe it to the bird/animal to give it as quick a death as possible which more than often means a clean headshot.

By testing on paper you will not only improve your shooting but will find out which pellet suits your rifle. If you have a look here http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/topic/181320-pellet-swap-opportunity/ you might be able to source some different pellets to try till you find the ones that suit the rifle. The rest is up to you, rifle hold, breathing, follow through all helps in the accuracy, more so with a spring rifle.

Have a look for some information by Si (Zini) and Simon (Pianoman) about shooting spring rifles I'm sure you'll find something of great significance.

But all in all it's just the case of practice, practice, practice mate

Good luck and keep us posted with your progress
