FOXHUNTER 5,021
I travelled up to my mates on Friday afternoon as we were going sika stalking on saturday. We ended up having a look about with the lamp at the back of his house, it was a full moon and hard frost ,not the best of conditions but my mate managed to shoot a nice vixen , turned out to be the only fox we saw. Next morning saw us up at 6am to travel to our stalking destination , very frosty morning......... I set off stalking a large forestry block, it was like walking on eggshells I never saw any deer until I eventually stalked to a lovely clear ride where the sun was hitting and luckily I spied 3 sika feeding in the morning sunshine I decided not to stalk any closer as it would have been too noisy ,so I took the shot at approx 220 -230 yards. The bullet strike was good , the hind leapt in the air and dashed into the trees , so I gave it 10 mins before approaching , I eventually found the hind lying dead in a small stream , she had run on about 70 yds I met up with my mate at about 12 noon and he had had more success than me, bagging 2 hinds. Stalking again in the afternoon , we saw a few beasts but no further luck...................... Great weekend with good weather for a change ................. Quote Link to post

FOXHUNTER 5,021
Hi,can you tell me what bi-pod that was in the first photo please. They are stalking sticks from Bushwear mate. Sounds like you had a good weekend. Do you use a dog for your stalking? If not how do you find the shot deer when they've ran off. Thanks Joe I dont use a dog when stalking mate , I have only ever needed the use of a dog once when the deer I had shot fell in some very dense cover. On this particular day , the stalker we were with had his trained deer dog with him so there wouldnt have been a problem. Quote Link to post
