Ratcherman 0
Had a trip out last night with my mate for a last night on the ducks. Headed off about 2.30 pm pushed a small bit of wood through with his black lab and got two nice brace of pheasant, then when dusk started setting in headed of to the duck pond where we started checking for fresh feather on the pond. As we started checking the dog run off in front of us and lifted 8 - 10 widgeon that were feeding on the outskirts of the pond which was a good sign. We then got set up, weren't there 10 minutes and three mallard dropped in and we got two of those. Another 10 - 15 minutes later a flight of widgeon dropped in but only managed to get one of them, then sat a while longer, two more widgeon dropped in and got both of them. We would have liked to stop longer as they were dropping in nicely and the dog was working well but unfortunately my mate had to get back. Well chuffed but not having to go home when they were dropping in nicely On leaving the pond we set up the .243 and lamped the farm on the way back as the farmer said there had been a fox knocking about for a couple of days outside the hen house. Lamped the farm with no sign, seen one fox on the next field which wasn't on our land and seen three deer run off into the wood. Got back to the car which was parked outside the hen house and I shone the lamp for the last time of the night and seen a pair of eyes at about 170 yards and my mate took the shot and cleanly dispatched of charlie . A very good couple of hours and can't wait to get back out . Quote Link to post
