Is this land big enough?

Recommended Posts

A legal limit air rifle in .22 will retain enough energy to kill a rabbit out past 100 yards. The pellet drop at that range is massive, and about 40 or 50 yards is a sensible limit if you can accurately place your shots out that far. It's all a matter of practice. Never try and shoot live game further away than the distance you can reliably group your pellets in the size of a 1p piece. It's very much a case of how good the organic bit behind the butt is with air rifles, as the air rifle, with a carefully selected pellet, will outshoot most people.

If you can talk to the farmer (or get the land owners to talk to him if they get on, it's better coming from them) then you might get permission to shoot his land too. Farmers are rarely rabbit lovers and usually welcome controlling them, and a recommendation from their neighbour might get you in where you would never normally stand a chance!

Like Les said converting a air rifle to FAC often reduces its value because the market is so much smaller but that means they are good value on the second hand market which could make up for FAC fees. While a PCP can shot good groups at 50 yards its dropping quite a bit by then and you need to know the distance accurately to gauge your drop. An FAC air rifle will push the range a bit if you have the skill.

I agree. One of my permissions is actually slightly bigger than the areas you marked out on the map, and I successfully use a non FAC PCP air rifle and snares to sort the rabbits out on it. And means I dont have to go through the hassle and expense of applying for a firearms license.
