zx10mike 137
continuing from the .204 re barrel,as it turns out i put my moderator on and that changed everything after working through some different loads three different powders three different bullets with the moderator fitted the best i could get was 0.70 inch as aposed to 0.23 inch without sounds fussy but that looks worse on paper than it sounds.my goal is long range rabbit shooting or just targets if the bunnys wont play.im thinking that those groups are going to open up at 300yds or 200.factoring in human error out of respect for bieng humane i would not shoot rabbits unless i can hit a bean tin every time.i know people out there will think why use a 204 for rabbits but were i shoot (them rabbits is organised)oh and lamp shy.any way what id like to throw out there is can anyone offer any advice i have a long heavy barrel 1 in 11 twist re - 204 re barrel,i do not want to shorten the barrel but at the same time if i use it without a mod you now what folk can be like they here a bang and think the taliban are training in the next field. and the police have better things to do.any musings are appreciated i know there is a lot of experience out there. CharlieT 32
You don't seem to be having much luck in the accuracy department with c/f rifles do you. Moderators usually tighten up groups not open them up. How's the groups with 32 gr factory ammo. Have you checked that the screw cut job is concentric. Is the barrel touching the stock when the mod is fitted. Quote Link to post

SNAP SHOT 194
group sizes may also shrink at further distances too, to say they are equal in term of what happens at 100 is not true... some dreadful rounds i have seen have been shit hot at long range, i'd suggest a good copper cleaning routine, and clean all round, check all nuts and bolts, scope, any free movement within the stock, start and narrow one thing at a time, i've seen a few .204's and some where hard to sort out, while other just performed, i wouldn't shorten the barrel unless its way too long, like over 26 inches, Snap.
