hi just wondering what you lads think,my brother got a nice little dog collie cross x,I went out walking with her today through a rush field and a lot of burrows, the dog just sticks it nose to the ground and of she goes, she is rising them but rushes to big to catch, and when he got her,he put the ferret in to few burrows and she was sticking her head in to the burrows, are you better to leave her in the slip,or let her learn of the lead, what you'd think she is only 15 months old nice little dog to

ah yeah mate she will be alright I am sure,if he can just keep her away from the burrows and just sit and wait instead of putting her head into the burrows, but she kept going back to one burrow, and we were waiting and waiting for the ferret, but that burrow she keep going to was the one the ferret was at,I just hope she comes right for him for what he payed

Whats the recall like?

I wouldnt mind the dog hunting and putting rabbits to ground.

I wouldnt mind him showing an interest in the holes prior to ferreting (marking)

Make him aware that sticking is head in a rabbit hole after nets have been put on and ferret entered is not what is needed

I let my dogs roam around freely as long as they dont touch the nets.

Dont worry about the lamping unless you know the recall is very good.If it isnt then make it a priority.

Sounds a very keen if somewhat head strong dog.

yeah mate she is a very keen dog, will try her on the lamp soon, she will beat the field no bother, maybe that's why she was sticking her head down the hole she was marking, cause keep going back to same hole, her recall not great when she is hunting up sure she will come around but

Sounds like a good wee dog to me mate. If thats your only gripes, your doing well. The dog should show an interest in the burrows, a f*****g rabbit is hiding in there, the smell must be lovely to them lol. I'd be more worried if it didn't to be honest. Use the summer to work on basic training and get ready for the action next season
