wuyang 513
I have had a border x greyhound and beardie/border x greyhound. For hunting up the beardie/border was much much better and would hunt far a head (the border is like a yooyoo not going too far ahead). The border collie cross tends to find something else to do if thers not much about (play with a stick), where as the beardie/border would still persist hunting (I do work my dogs were there isn't much game, so they do have to work hard to find any quarry and that is where the current bitch lets her self down). The border cross loves training exercises whereas the border/beardie wasn't bothered with stuff at all. The beardie/border never had any problems with his feet, had plenty of problems with my borders feet (but most of it was just bas luck to be honest). Both good in any weather, good skin and coat. The beardie/border was the better worker of the two, he had amazing strike and was more consistent when hunting. Although he had my heart in my mouth when chasing, he would dive through anything. The border cross is a lot more sensible and pulls off some good catches, but sometimes a bit too fussy. Dont get me wrong i like a safe dog, but sometimes she pulls up far too early. I have also worked pure border collies and they were alot different to my current border/greyhound, they hunted better without distraction. Im not saying the above is typical of all beardie/borders or border collie lurchers just the comparisons of my two. I do believe there will be much better border collie/greyhounds than the one i have knowing how good my pure collies were. Just make sure you know the background of the sire and dam. optimus 447
Whats the pros and cons of both types. Could we please stay on subject. Posted first question yesterday and it ended up following the yellow brick road. No red slippers please VERY GOOD QUESTION MATE..OBVIOUSLY YOU GET A BETTER COAT FROM MOST BEARDIE CROSSES. ARGUMENT WAS YOU GOT BETTER FEET & CONSTITUTION FROM THE BEARDIE AS THEY WORKED ROUGHER COLDER TERRAIN THAN THE BORDER COLLIE. THIS I HAVE NEVER SEEN PROVEN IN A CONCLUSIVE ARGUMENT & MOST WORKING COLLIES OF ALL TYPES LEAD A DAMN HARD LIFE. SOME ALSO CLAIMED THE BEARDIE TO BE FAR MORE INDEPENDENT THAN THAN A BORDER COLLIE. FACT IS THAT BORDER COLLIES ARE BY FAR THE MOST POPULAR WORKING COLLIE IN THE UK, THUS IT STANDS TO REASON THEY WILL BE THE MOST POPULAR COLLIE FOR PRODUCING LURCHERS & MOST DOGS IVE CAME ACROSS OF BEARDIE ORIGIN CAME FROM D HANCOCKS KENNELS. WHAT EXACTLY IS THE BEST PRODUCER OF LURCHERS?????????? WELL IVE SEEN FAR MORE DECENT BORDER COLLIE CROSSES, AS THEY ARE MORE COMMON, BUT IVE SEEN DECENT BEARDIE HYBRIDS ALSO. GIVEN THE CHOICE IF I WAS LOOKING FOR A PUP??? I,D TAKE EITHER AS LONG AS THEY WERE FROM GOOD STOCK ps/ i have Reebok`s on,as i dont wear red womans slippers(well not in public anyway) Quote Link to post
