out for a mooch

Recommended Posts

As i am sitting here bored, i decided to head out to the "local fields". This farm usually holds a few bunnies early on in the season, but soon get thinned out.

I put the mutts on the leads and made the 5 minute walk across the estate to fields, you get some funny look's when you walk with a lurcher, the majority of people automatically assumes that you are upto no good

When i got to the fields i let skye off and she jumped the fence, while i had to lift breeze (the lab) over. THe first field i let them have a 5 minute madness to get it out their system, you dont usually see anything in this field. I crossed the little "ford" to get into some long fields, about 150-200yards wide. I stayed close to the hedgerows and kept the dog's near, breeze straight off did what she does best - flushing pheasants.

Skye, give a wee chase on it then realised she cant fly :D I worked further up but nothing else was flushed. I crossed another field and got into a field which is likk a valley, with the beck running through the middle. Just in the corner of a field, skye and breeze flushed out a rabbit which skye duly ran after. The rabbits escape was always a certain as he only needed to make a 40 yard dash to the next hedge plus by the time skye scrambled through the fence the bunny had a 10 yard head start.

But skye ran it with a bit of style, she was about a yard behind it when it got away. As the rabbit turned to go into the hedge, skye turned well with it, something which only last week i thought she needed a lot of experience on.

I walked down the beck and seen a fox's run

We didnt put anything up but it was a nice walk, and i enjoyed watching the dog's working together.

I might just have a look over these fields tonight with the lamp B)

Sounds like a decent walk mate and some good sport to be had with those two dogs working together as a team. ;)

certainly will be, going to invite a few mates out one day to beat a woodland, once i get the van back, i can send the lab through the woodland & stand around on the edges with the lurchers for any bolting rabbits :D
