frozen cage traps

Recommended Posts

hi all

i awoke this molrning to find all the bait gone out of both my cage traps (peanut buttert + whole peanuts) and a couple of strands of grey fur on the edge of one giving away who did it. but both my traps were frozen stiff and took a hefty puch to set off. how do i combat this so i can leave my traps overnight and they still work in the morning?

ATB

Aaron.

thanks guys! think i'll try beeswax, seems a good plan. micky, funnily enough i checked it yesterday morning and it was set off so i looked down the front (it's covered in branches t make it look more inviting?) and there was a little doormous sitting in it. i took off the branches and the doormouse was gone! must have squeezed throught the bars somehow, or maybe its houdini-mouse.

Must be a Houdini mouse .Dormouse would asleep this time of year. :D

It's only a personal thing but I don't like leaving squirrel cage traps set overnight in really freezing weather as the squirrels are not active in the dark anyway and any non-target that may get caught after dusk is going to have a miserable time.

well it was not a rat as th ears were large, maybe a fieldmouse? at around 9am the work starts around my gardena nd any squirrels which were around usually bugger off as they are used to associating humabs with dangers (i.e bang, whizz, mate falls to the floor twitching, not feeding here again...) and i often see them around early in the morning.
