back again ,why do new springers have bad springs

Recommended Posts

hi all have had to have a new username was wrowmon [bANNED TEXT] so hope you all had a good xmas and new year..

anyway going to have a moan about mid priced springers and titan springs..

purchased 3 springers recently one brand new other about six months.

1. gamo delta brand new out of the box this was for the young ones to use..stated 525 fps on box on chorno 380 fps with a mixture of pellets..

quick strip down spring was bent and i mean bent...barrel needed a recrown and piston had a burr full lenght of cocking lever grove.tided up the piston quick recrown (can be done at home)cut down a bsa spring and refitted after removing plastic spacer at spring guide and made up a tin can piston sleeve now doing 540 with accupell not to bad considering what it did first off..why do gamo do rubbish quality springs

2 gamo shadow same problem well down on power stripped down spring bent ordered titan spring needed to trim length did so and treated cut end and smoothed it down fine for 15 shots then power dropped of stripped down and found uncut end had collapsed by 6 coils...so what has happened to tian springs? fitted cut down ox all is well and legal..this gun is only six months old..

3. hatsan e.bros 85tx well what can i say over chorno 10 ft with air arms 16 gr so decided to tune ox no3 fit and with a top hat and tin can sleeve

am very happy but had to cut 4 coils off ox to keep legal..now 11.7 ft lb a lot smoother to shot than at 10 ftlb. and 3/4 inch group at 40 yds as long as i do my bit..

just asking has the price of good spring wire gone up so much that companies now use rubbish as it can't do sales much good or is it because we have a legal power limit they just put in the rejects knowing people will not know the difference..

Hi, Wrowmon, why the new name? Have you been bad?

Interesting point, Gamo, Hatsan, whoever don't make their own springs, no gun maker does they outsource to whatever manufacturer says they can give them the specs they need for the best price.

I'm surprised about the Titan spring, I've fitted a lot of their springs over the years and they've always been very good. I fitted one to my Diana 52 not too long ago (remember the trigger problem  ) and it's been fine. I hope they've not cut costs and maybe you've just had bad luck with your's... :hmm:

Good luck with it anyhow, mate.

Cheers.

Edit to say... I've only ever fitted Titan's round wire springs, their square section ones are exactly the same spring as the OX.
