Gloop 5
So I have a Marlin .22 lr in bolt action but because I am left handed I want to move over to a Semi. Got an offer of a Ruger 10/22 I think it is. Allows me to get the second shot off quickly if I need it. I have been told that the semi autos are less accurate than the bolt actions. I will be shooting out to 75 yards. Anything beyond that I use the hmr. I did have an annie 22 about "ahem" 20 years ago, "cough" and from what I can remember it was very accurate. But I was younger and perhaps have rosy tinted glasses. So any ideas, comments etc? Quote Link to post
matt_hooks 188
The 10-22 is a good basic action to start from. Some of them are very accurate "out of the box" but most need a little work, normally a new trigger unit and sometimes a new barrel. There's no inherent reason why a semi should be less accurate than a bolt action, though when moderated the semi will be noisier because of the noise of the action cycling. My Voere semi is capable of accuracy plenty good enough for taking bunnies out to 75 yards, though I normally like to stalk in closer, just for the challenge. Most semi's will give you that sort of accuracy and performance with no problems. Quote Link to post
halamrose 24
Some say a semi will be less accurtate because the chamber is looser, headspace less controlled and the action lacks the positive lockup of a bolt. A well tuned 10/22 can be plenty accurate and you can have lots of fun improving them which is a good reason to select that particular semi. A more importent issue for a left hander may be which side the ejection takes place, if you like the empty blowing accross in formnt of your face or not. You will need to do some research to find what the options are on this. Halam Quote Link to post
