advice needed

thanks again for more replies.yes he is a very happy go lucky dog who is fun, boisterous and playfull which is why i dont understant him as most the time he is more than happy to be approached for fuss ect.

i very rarely raise voice as he is a well behaved dog.however on some rare occasions he growls and not a playful growl either.its weird as its almost like jeckel and hyde.unfortunatly seems to be getting more and more often.

i have been talking to him softly when this happens to reasure him and this does work after a while.

my fear is can i trust him with wife alone?

its hard to understand as its so unwarrented and inconsistant to his normal behaviour.

thanks again

Have known a couple of dogs in the past with a split personality like you describe, one of them was a staffy as well.

Unfortunately none of them could be sorted out and the staffy attacked it's owner so badly they needed surgery on thier arms and lost the use of 2 fingers, sorry mate but i don't think you should ever trust the dog with your wife or anyone else, if it were mine i would have it PTS.

That problem is completly fixable bud , 100% , the thing is people are hung up on dominating their mutt seems to be the thing to do, you know he a good dog trust your feelings ,as you say he's 99% spot on, its just that little block somewhere in your relationship, ending his life will be failing him and you will still be left wondering where it all went wrong,,PM me if ya need anymore advice,,best of luck

First of all dont listen to all the thick c**ts that tell you to hit him or kick him or put him down! If you need to dominate him at all, you do it by forcing him onto his back and holding him there till he stops wriggling. A dog understands dog language and a dogs way of saying im the boss and your taking the piss is to pin them down, growling, fangs (your fingers) applying gentle but firm pressure to the chest, belly or throat untill the dog submits.

Good behaviour = lots of praise, a treat and a cuddle. Unwanted behaviour = being ignored. Agressive behaviour = being dominated.

Only you know if your dog is being aggressive or frightened when hese growling at you. If its cos hes frightened, ignore him. Let him calm down then call him to you. If he comes, reward with a praise, a treat and a stroke or cuddle. If he doesnt come when you call him, hese ignoring you. Go to him QUIETLY AND UNTHREATENINGLY, take hold of coller and lead him to where you were when you called him. If he allows you to lead him its treat etc time. If not its for you to judge if its domination time or just time to be a bit firmer.

Try this and i promise you will be shocked at how quickly you can turn him round.
