Manco 16
I was skimming through some of the older threads on here and one I could identify with is “golden moments†(started by rossij with replies from various members). I agree, it’s such a satisfying experience when you pull off a good shot – especially if there’s someone to witness it. Recently, I was out shooting with my stepson, Jan, on the farm he manages. An Afrikaner, brought up with rifles, he claims he “only speaks English in self-defenceâ€! Anyway, we get on well; communicating in a mixture of English and Afrikaans, we manage a bit of good-natured banter. I had my Whisper X with me and had already taken several doves (and missed one or two!) when Jan tapped me on the shoulder and pointed: a small duck had just landed on some still water about 30 yards away. It was downhill, and it had to be a standing shot – there was nothing to rest on and the undergrowth was too high for a kneeling or prone position. Nothing else for it. I put the cross on the base of its head, got a good sight picture and squeezed the trigger. GOT IT!!! Instant kill; the duck floated, lifeless on the surface while its buoyancy remained. I was elated and even old Jan was stirred: “Bliksem! That was a good shot!...†Knowing Jan quite well, I waited expectantly for the punch-line, “…for an Englishmanâ€. But it never came. Good hunting and have fun, Chris Quote Link to post

Manco 16
How did we retrieve the duck? We sent one of the farm workers to get it and in return gave him the doves and the duck for the pot. Cheers, Chris Quote Link to post
rossi_j 99
My mate had a "golden moment" today, we were breaking clays in a large field, I was using his o/u, he using his semi auto. As he shouted pull and the clays flew, a woody swooped past nearly being caught out by the black disks, with no hesitation he took the bird and went on to hit both clays, brilliant, I wouldent have belived it if I hadent seen it with my own eyes, when he turned round the smile on his face said it all Not air gunning but I just felt the need to share it And no he dident get a bonus point as requested lol .atb. .ste.
