New or second-hand?

Oceans of choice when it somes to shotguns.

If you're buying second-hand, check the stock for cracks, just hold the stock steady and "twist" the action, any hidden hairline cracks will show up.

Take the fore-end off the barrels and hold the stock tight under your arm. Give the barrels a shake from left to right, if it seems to move independantly of the rest of the action, then it's loose and may need a new locking bolt or even complete rejointing.

Check the barrels for dents and rusting/pitting on the inside.

After that, if it goes bang when you pull the trigger, its grand!

My first gun was a second hand 12 bore baikal which i bought for £35 , 15 years ago.

i've shot hundreds of rabbits and pigeons with it as well as the usual pests including two foxes.

Baikal are, i gather known for no frills styling etc.If you are looking for a reliable workhorse give it a try, mine is still giving me good returns on my £35! and i haven't yet replaced it.

Aye cant go wrong with a cheap and cheerful baikal i shoot with a bloke who paid 90 quid for a baikal o/u got 250 cartridges and a sleeve , only cleaned it once in 5 years , very forgiving lol and its still a tidy gun.
