Thats one way

I see people with plastic herons at the side of their ponds, but dont know if it works, mus be something to do with teritory i think.

Cheers bob

Used to have this problem at our old place. Just stuck some garden canes round the pond with some fishing mono round it and sorted the problem right away. ;)

That will work fine on an open pond, but he says he has a heavey duty cover over it, the herons will just land streight on top of it.

A heron cant land on the water and has to wade in so the mono is placed around to stop it wading in.

Thats a very good point... didn't think a heron would try that. In which case i agree that it would be a crying shame if it flew into some lead... by accident... poor wee thing.

That's not true mate where i have permission there's sometimes 3 to 4 heron's on there especially in the summer when it's full of tadpole's.. i would say lead poisoning would be the best bet.. :D ..

A heron can land on water, some years back, I worked in a place overlooking a lake with big shoals of golden orfe in it and many times watched a heron belly flop onto the water, stick his head underwater, grab an orfe and take off again!
