skycat 6,174
I don't like spaying bitches BUT it seems that there are plenty of people who have had the op. done for the right (medical) reasons and been happy with the result. I have seen a few (other peoples' bitches) where the bitch turned 'nasty' afterwards, BUT there had been temperament issues before the spaying as well. CollieGrey is dead right there: if there is a temperament problem its likely to make things a lot worse. However, both the bitches I had to have spayed for medical reasons did not appear to have any sort of a temperament problem before they were spayed and they became very suspect after being spayed, taking a real dislike to the unspayed bitches they lived with: I wonder if that could cause a problem: loss of status, or identity in an otherwise 'entire' pack. Not saying for definite but I wouldn't do it again unless forced to, and I'd be prepared to find the bitch a pet home away from entire dogs/bitches if a problem appeared. Just my opinion, and most people who keep dogs in any number seem to either kennel them all separately or keep one sex or another. Living as a pack has its disadvantages as well as advantages.
