student protests

Recommended Posts

Personaly, i rejoiced when i first saw the students demonstrating, i was begining to think that there was nothing that our "leaders" could do, that people wouldnt put up with.

The apathy of the British astounds me, where is the outrage at being lied to on weapons of mass destruction, where is the outrage at our soveriegnty being handed over to foriegn powers, where is the outrage at millions of foriegners flooding into our country, the banks the pensions the list goes on and on, but most people are content to keep their head in the sand and fondly imagine that the powers that be are this benign friendly force who have our best interests at heart, when nothing could be further from the truth. THe real issue isnt student loans, its government accountability, and untill more people take an interest in the way they are governered, then they will keep shafting us.

Agreed completely, but what is to be done and by who? the law is now used to control instead of protect the masses ( or the great unwashed) so any protest has to registered and "managed by the police" having marched twice against the hunting ban and to be a part of one of the biggest and most peaceful civil protests seen in the UK i was still dismayed to see the Blairite cronies and their Tory chums vote the ban through using the parliament act this was a complete misuse of this particular act of parliament but the legal challenge to it was declined by the law lords who said that although it may have not been "in the spirit of the legislation" that the use of it for any purpose was legal

That ruling allowed the use of the parliament act for anything that a government sees fit to push through, in effect an elected dictatorship, we at least have held on to 4 yearly changes of regime, although we still get the same shafting again and again, if the Uk no i take that back, if England had a motto it would have to be less for more

And as Foxfan says quite correctly we just sit back and soak it up like a sponge

These kids have been sold the idea that going to university will enable them to somehow magically float into a well paid job upon graduation. Unfortunately this is untrue. The reality is that employers want people with skills and experience, not qualifications.

Under Tony 'education, education, education' B liar and poor old Gordon Brown, numbers going to university tripled. It doesn't take someone with an economics degree to work out that graduate jobs did not triple in that time, with the result being that a university education turned out to be a waste of time and money for many disappointed people. Overall, cutting the number of people going to university will be a good thing for everyone, apart from those who earn their living from university employment.

We are in the current economic situation because the government spent too much, not because they didn't tax enough. The coalition government is too much of a comprimise and is raising taxes too much and not cutting enough of the budget at the moment. The student protests were just one example of the sense of entitlement to taxpayers' money that needs to change. 'Education is a right, not a privilege' - try telling that to the taxpayer who pays for it.

Agree with 90% of what you say Foxfan. Personal view was we all have a right to peaceful protest, but if you overstep that mark then the full force of the law should be unleashed on these people.

Re their "Right" to education, next they will be telling us that they have a right to a job when they graduate. Welcome to the world students. The world at the moment is not a good place, we are better off than a few places but when will they understand that due to the ineptitude of Comrade Blair and Gormless Gordon, we are skint, broke, the cupboard is bare. I was made redundant last year, back into work now thank god but why should the students be any less affected than us, they need to take their share of the pain too.

Lastly, lets be clear, yes the Banker screwed up, but the govt were happy to rake all the extra taxes that the bankers were generating and also as a general public some/many were happpy to spend as if it were going out of fashion, either banging it on mortgages or on cards.

I know one couple who are 82 grand in debt on credit cards with nothingreally to show for it. both in full time work with the same company for many years. No one forced them to spend that money.

So it's not just the bankers, its the govt and some of the public as well. An no- i'm not a banker ( well some would say..) :whistling:

Quote "if you overstep that mark then the full force of the law should be unleashed on these people."

You will definately see that happen in the not too distant future, as the student unrest is just the start of things, remember the "civil contingencies act", perhaps you dont as Blair sneaked it through when no-one was looking, well in the coming months we will see why it was created, as riots go off the scale.

And you can take that to the bank. :big_boss:

there is too many useless degrees so why shouldnt they pay for the cost why should average joe pay so much in tax not just income but everything they buy to help fund someone that is going to be earning 2/3 time more than him but i do think the occupations where were lacking and needing people they should be at as minimum cost as poissible ffs its not as if they are going to pay anything back if there earning 2/300 quid a week they will have to earn over 400 a wk to even start paying anything back so maybe its a good thing everything else is being cut left right and centre why shouldnt they feel the pinch as well but i do think more of us need to stand up and be counted not that it does much like the hunting march but maybe if we start then these counts in power whoever they may be (as they all in it for themselves they just have to pretend they all support diff views so we need enough of them so they all stay in jobs to stand for the little men) maybe they will have to listen but if we just give up like they know we will ie fuel protests hunting act maybe we should stick at it after all thy are meant to be serving us not us serving them if people really wanted and i mean really wanted then we could force change but maybe all there policies have worked and theve surpressed us that much and took away so much from us ie national identity, you cant say/do that its racist polit uncorrect that were just useless puppets that were more bothered what haircut beckhams got and what bugs they eating on celeb get me the f**k out of here have they really numbed us down that much that we are paying and being dictated to so much that we (like someone said) JUST SOAK IT UP LIKE A SPONGE
