Started giving my bitch of 21 weeks RMB today she loved it was unsure of how much to give her so cut the neck off of a chicken back wich is basically a carcass with out wings legs and breast and threw it in for her. I had to leave for work when I got back she'd eat the lot.

Is this to much for her as I havnt fed her this afternoon because of all that she eat!!

I still need to feed her twice a day!! Iv'e figured if I cut it in half and give it to her will that be to much??

Any help would be great!!

By the way my bitch is a Collie/Grey X Whippet she's about14 inches but growing constant!!!

It depends on the size of the dog mate.

You should look to give about 2-3% of body weight a day; do you know how much it weighed?

If you want to feed her twice a day thats fine; some feed once a day, some people will miss a day out every so often. It think it just depends on what suits your dog.

Good luck with it :victory:

I've been feeding my (5) Dogs on RMB for about 8 months now, and all of them throughly enjoy it and actively turn up their noses at dry food, even the ones who ate it before we changed. The standard recommendation is

1-3 % of the dogs adult weight. It's hard to say sometimes what a crosses adult weight should be, but our 19month collie is about 15 - 20Kg, so weight wise you should be looking somewhere in the region of 400 - 600grms, at the high end, but as each dog is different, you have to play it by ear, if the dog starts looking thin, feed it more, looking too fat, feed it less. When the dog starts working it will need more food anyway.

When feeding carcasses I have found it best to mix with some pet mince or tripe and mince, and also supplement with other protein sources, milk, eggs, cheese. especially while the pups are still growing.

There's just not enough flesh on a chicken back on its own, for my deerhound pup, every morning I give him tesco/sainsbury value frozen chicken portions, £2.65 for a 2.5kg bag. A lot higher meat content , although not as cheap as free carcass. We also get the waste bags from the butchers for free, which will have lamb, beef, and pork bones, as well as lots of fatty offcuts, heads, trotters, etc. These take a little more care as, you don't want to give them too much fat and keep an eye on the big bones. Also too much bone can cause blockages, (as my spaniel recently found out !) so have a good mix of bone and flesh and the odd bit of fruit and veg won't go amiss.

Good luck and read up as much as you can on the RMB sites, like http://www.ukrmb.co.uk/

Had the dogs on it for years now and would never go back. 3% is the recomended weight but it depends on the dogs, a couple of mine looks great on that but one dog needs more otherwise hes looks too light. Trust your judgement and alter the amount accordingly.

Each dog is different keep a close eye out to see if she is losing weight then just up the amount as long she is'nt obese a little bit of weight on a pup will do no harm (especially this time of year). A bitch i own get's half of the food the three dog's get otherwise she would balloon, she is pretty much same size two of them, seem's she dose'nt burn energy as quick as the dog's. When feeding RMB you will find that you won't be cleaning the kennel's as much as with just a dry food diet. Good luck with her.
