me presonly at what i do i do tend to bunny bash a lot now and agian , and i beleave that a lurcher most be laernt to retrieve from being a puppy its so impotant to have this in your dog . is there poeple that are not bothered of the dog retrieving . i do have invites no and again to different land , and see all different tpyes of our modern day lurcher , and to see a man walk over to his dog to take the rabbit of the floor makes me do 2 things  as that dog not been learnt properly . do that man just love that extra walking, what you reckon on this one lads

Depends on what quarry you are running. When it comes to rabbits i think it's a must for the dog to at least bring it in close to you, some just dont seem to be able to make it to hand, which is obviously ideal, but a couple of yards is acceptable.

funny you say that, ive got a pup 3/8 bull5/8 grey 5 months old. And it (not) intersted in retreving, ive stopped retreive training with it.As all you are doing is teaching not respond whats been given.? Ive had lurchers 25 years, and sometimes you do get dogs+pups that (dont) want to do it, and there feck all you can do to make'um. My last bullx 1/4 bull 3/4 grey, he would bring back. Started to drop short with rabbits, after is 3 season up to then every thing was brought right to me.My colliexs have all retrieved brill for about 4 seasons, and they start to drop short a bit. I think if you dont push them to hard with runs, they will always bring back , but if they get alot of runs (20-30) in a night they get tired+ pissed off of doing it. Just go back to recall training day+night, leave retreiving alone. Because like me all you are doing is learning it (not) to do it, by repeatedly asking it when you know it wont. Leave it for a couple of months, then try it again, if still the same leave it again 2 months. They might do it when they have grown up a bit, but as i say some dogs wont do it.
