markha 99
Hi All, I was out with the young-en the other day and he was moanng that his gun, Miroku 12g, was very good as he wasnt hitting much. I spent the day with him and I have to say he missed plenty of crows and pigeons, you could see the shot was close as the birds got buffeted by the shot. So at the end of the day with 6 shells left I told him to shoot at one of the older plastic pigeon decoys, it was around 30-35yds away. He took a shot and it went left by about 1.5 ft, he then took a second shot and this was a little lower and about 2ft to the left...hmmm, give me the gun, so I have a couple of shots, I lined up the middle and barrel tip beads and bang, shot is left by about 1ft or so, I take a second shot and peppered the decoy. Now this Miroku was bought from one of the game fairs and, according to the dealer, the previous owner had spent a fair bit on customising it, so it has, visually a spring loaded recoil pad, the other thing very noticabel on closer inspection was that when I looked down the top rib, from the barrel end, the stock was quiet bent off line, basically canted over to the right cheek. My thoughts are that the stock has also been fettled to fit the previous owner, but I cant figure out why this would make the gun consistently shoot to the left as the rib has 2 beads on it, one at the tip of the barrel and one midpoint along the lenght of the rib, surely if these are visually lined up, regardless of a canted stock, then the barrel should be pointing straight at the target. I could understand the gun shooting to the left if there was just a bead at the barrel tip, as this would mean that if you lined this up with your eye and the stock is canted over, that the barrel would not be pointing in the right direction, if that makes sense? So has anyone got any thoughts on this? I have basically told the young-en to mention it to his dad and perhaps think about visiting the gunsmith for a bit of tweaking of the fit. Cheers in advance Mark Quote Link to post
Terryorr 27
I aint an expert on this sort of thing mate but if you look down the top rib from the barrel end and the stock veers off to the right, this would suggest to me that this gun is for a left handed shooter. Only my opinion. Quote Link to post
danebrewer10 6
as I'm sure you know, shotgun shooting is very dependent on the gun fit, as the gun needs to fit, so that when you bring the gun up to your shoulder, your eye needs to be looking down the middle of the rib without you having to crane your head over. you can shoot with a left handed gun, I've tried it but it's very arkward, so when you're out shooting you'e got the shot AND the gun position to think about especially when snap shooting, so hardly codusive to good shooting, I recommend you either get the stock steamed back, or buy a different gun.... basically, poor form from the gun shop, letting someone buy an ill ftting gun. markha 99
Dane, do you also think its a left handed gun then? As when you look down the rib from the barrel end the stock is very noticibly canted over to the right. I agree about poor show on the gun dealers part, Im sure they got the gun when they were at the CLA fair. Quote Link to post
dogsbollocks58 36
yes it is bye the sound of it left handed gun i agree with terryorr Quote Link to post
danebrewer10 6
yes, it sounds like a left handed gun, for a righthander, if you look at the gun from the top (ie rib uppermost), the stock will be bent to the right of the centreline of the bore, for a lefthander it will be bent to the left to move the bore over to the eye, as at least with my head, my eyes aren't directly over my shoulders if he does decide to get the stock steamed, i'd get the drop (up/down) as well as the cast (left/right) done at the same time, then there's no excuse for the gun not fitting Edited October 29, 2010 by danebrewer10 Quote Link to post
markha 99
Yep then hes been sold a left handed stock, looking at the gun from a birds eye view, ribs up, barrels pointing left and stock on the righthand side, the stock is canted down from the centreline. Ill let his dad know tonight and hopefully he has got the cash to get the gun fitted for him. Cheers all Mark Quote Link to post
