huntingryan 33
i have never used a locator and i have never lost a ferret Quote Link to post
stevethefish 80
My issue was not so much loosing the ferrets but the time it takes for them to re-appear when they have killed or backed a rabbit up. As you know it can take a hell of a long time for a ferret to eventually kill a rabbit when its backed up. The other side of it is when you are ferreting in or around heavy cover, we have had ferrets up to 100 yards away in brambles etc and only really found them because of the locator, I know loads who have lost ferrets this way. hughesrobert13 0
could have done with a locator yesterday put my ferret in no sign for about half hour or so found him about 30 40 yards down the banking and he had killed in he came out on his own accord luckily. we put another ferret in with a locator to see if we could retrive the rabbit the ferret went down and stayed in one spot we tried to dig but could not dig the ground as there was so much tree roots and concrete from an old wall i will be investing in a locator because they can be very handy. with out the locater you would not be able to retrive rabbits that the ferret has killed. we did manage to retrive one rabbit that was only about a foot in to the hole no digging with the use of the locator. i know alot of you guys dont use them but i think they are worth thier weight in gold. how do you guys manage when the ferret kills in without the locator Quote Link to post

ferretfatcamp 21
if you dont use locaters you are only skimming a few rabbits which is fine if there are plenty of rabbits but if numbers are few then you have to dig or you wont catch many what happens if your ferret is trapped behind a dead rabbit do you leave the ferret to die or escape steve Quote Link to post
