stock breaking

help anyone?

got a 13 month bullx just starting himslowly this season he still seems very silly and puppy like, but i aint complaining, he can take all the time he needs, just letting him have a few runs each week on the lamp for now.

i have been stockbreaking him for 6 months now, thought he had it sorted, walks with me through sheep fine off the lead seems interested in the fact they are there but doesnt look like he wants to chase em, but just recently he has given chase on two occasions to sheep, just running with them not striking at them at all, yet.

i dont have anywhere to stock break apart from a nature reserve near me that have a small flock for conservation grazing that i use but aint many there, and i probably shouldnt be either.

the times he has given chase, he has been off ahead with my mates dog, playing and he did come back after a few recalls.

just wondering if anyone can offer any tips or advice on how to stop it?

Just a case of repetitive training mate. Need to keep him going through them until they are like the rest of the scenery, not worth bothering about. Its a funny age for him, you'll notice he'll be trying a lot of different ways to try his luck. He is maturing and feeling at his peak, trying to work out where he fits in in the pack etc. I reckon you'll notice him trying his luck when a lot of different opportunities come his way and he'll throw you deafies when it suits him. Be firm with him but praise him when he is good.

spot on  , (firm (but) kind.!!

yeah every walk i take himon now im going to try and go through sheep keep at it, cos unfortunately the small amount of permission i have has sheep surrounding it, and a lot of the guesting does too :whistling:

feathered friend, hit the nail on the head, the last couple of months he is constantly testing me, seeing how far he can push things. a lot more testing that other dogs ive had in the past (mainly retrievers though).

cheers for the help

if he doesn't listen when another dog is there, DON'T HAVE IT OUT WITH ANOTHER DOG. You are setting up a recipe for disaster ... Put him on leash when within a field or so of the sheep. Is the friends dog not stockbroken?

friends dog, colliexwhippet, is sound, same as mine when on his own, in fact he probably only chased to join in with mine, he is normally calmer. they will always be worked together so they need to be ok together, and ill be working fields next to sheep so cant lead him up as soon as im close.
