Irish Lurcher 1,013
Was out some weeks ago with young lad popping rabbits. Field was full of them, but a strange that happened that set my mind wondering. We were tight up against a ditch with a dry channel running between us and the next field. The young lad poked me in the side and made movements to the alert me of the fox that has appeared in the channel with rabbit in mouth. The fox continued to enjoy his grub while we looked on, I could have shot him but sometimes it’s nice to enjoy such a rear sight that it unfolding just feet away from you. If this fox came so close to us without realizing that we were there, do we over do it when it comes to shooting them from a down wind position Quote Link to post

Guest mucker
a month or so back i got to a potential dig a little to early id dug it last year no problem. it was just getting light and i had just netted up and put a dog in. i stood up on the mound and caught something out the corner of my eye in the scrub were 3 fox making there way straight for the earth i was standing on. they came within 3 or 4 feet of the first whole all one behind the other with there heads down and not a clue i was there. i had a terrier the other side of me pegged down and althought she couldnt see them throught the scrub she stuck her nose in the air and started to snort and they were off. closest ive been to any number of fox with out them seeing me, had i turned up an hour later id have had them all im sure of it. edited to add it was nice to see just a bit pissed the dogs did nothing that day;) Edited December 21, 2006 by mucker Quote Link to post
