apperknowle 3
Aup Lads and Lasses, As some may know a few months ago I was going to apply for my sgc as I am 15, 16 soon, but I've hung back because of talk of raising the age to 18 not only to buy a gun, but to be given one, so basically I wouldn't be able to have a shotgun in my possesion and i dont see the point in applying and if i get my certificate, having to get rid of my gun because of a change in law. So do you think it is worth applying? Thankyou ATB Martin Quote Link to post
iamduvern 62
Go for it if you get your cert and they do change the law My guess is that you would be ok It would only apply to new applicants from the date of the new law Quote Link to post
RicW 67
Agreed. British law is not usually retroactive. Ric Quote Link to post

Thankyou ATB Martin I thought the law changed my son had a letter sayin on the 28th of july it is a offence for a person under the age of (18) to purches or hire a shot gun or firearms . I therefore inform you that you will no longer be able to purches or aquire any fire arms or ammunition before your (18) birthday as to do so will be an offence.I hope this helps . alb W.D Quote Link to post
apperknowle 3
I believe thats only the purchase and hire that went from 17 to 18. i believe you can still have them if they are given to you as a gift atb martin Quote Link to post
matt_hooks 188
You might be able to hold the gun on your own certificate, but you wouldn't be able to buy any ammunition, someone would have to give it to you. Quote Link to post
