I have a 5 month old Patt bitch that is hunting really well but when she gets her head down it just wont come back until shes ready or lost the sent, its really winding me up to the point that I could shoot the little :censored:,the thing is she knows she's done wrong because when it eventually returns, you know tail down and looking sheepish.

I know its only a pup but I want to stop it before it really get out of hand and I dont want to keep her on the lead all the time.

My dog Patt come back to my whistle within a minute or 2  but the bitch 10mins/20mins and all this time Im getting more and more wound up :angry::hunter:

please help

Id try a rope bout thirty foot long tied to her collar let her out and teach her when called come bak rope make it easier to entice her whenever she comes back always lots of praise no matter how long , good luck with her

I would (as above) use a "long line" in the initial stages (not an extendable lead) and teach the dog when you call it, it always returns-the line ensures success. I teach between 60-80 dogs a week and have had repeated success with this

Best wishes with the training

let her out in a confined space, but big enough for her to still be away from you... call her back and when she comes (nomatter how long after being called) give her treats or a toy she likes with loads of praise. she'll eventually turn good

atb :good:

a dog doesnt know its done wrong.youre putting your own thoughts into the dogs brain which just isnt going to happen.a dog thinks differently to us they dont understand guilt or other human feelings.if she is subdued when she returns its probably cos she fears a telling off or a smack.persevere with her give her a small treat when she returns no matter how much time she takes.never tell her off always get her to associate returning to you as a pleasant experience, use a long rope until youre sure of her recall.

fuk the long rope bolaks, iv had the same problem got a 5 month laky bitch who used to do exact same thing id call her she would look at me then just put her nose down and fuk off, everytime she did that id just go grab the little shit even chased the little cnut once give her a shake and a smack and put her back on her lead for the rest of the walk, she soon learnt also helps as they get older when your bond becomes better with the dog.

:hmm: that works with some dogs, but not all, can break the more nervous ones spirit so be carefull you dont ruin your dog if you do choose to try it :good:
