Its not used much in the lurcher world, i get the dogs responding to tug play, from an early age it focuses them on you, its part of their prey drive and nothing has a stronger pull for a dog then its drive, i've used food and praise in the past, but felt it can be hit and miss with some dogs, if you can get a dog switched on to it, there is nothing that cant trained, within reason,,i use 2 tug items for retrieve,,get him nuts for play for afew days,,when you play tug, Always let him win, let him run off with it,,then produce the second one , run backwards and call him up, if he's mad for play he'll follow, because its playing into his drive, ,try to get him to follow , with the first item in his mouth, when he gets to you, throw the second one away for him to chase,,this way he has to come to you to get to play again, he cant carry both , so you'll always have one spare to call him up with,,dont take anything off him just let him drop them , that way he wont fear anything been taken off him,,,sorry its a bit long winded, thats the rough idea,,give us a shout if its all double dutch to ya,, , best of luck
