joel222 66
Just wondering when a pups coat becomes rough. I have a fourteen week old beddy whippet and she has quite long hair on her legs and face, and a little bit down her spine but i thought it would of been rougher than this by now. Is it still possible for it to break or will it only be slightly rough coated? Quote Link to post

Polkey 70
My beddy/whippet had a few long hairs down his legs and on his face and was quite smooth the rest but hoped he would end up broken coated and by six months it was obvious he was going to be. Not sure if there is any way of telling other than time. Quote Link to post

The coat often doesn't 'break' until around 20 weeks...'guide hairs' are a good indication of how long the coat will be, in my experience. It starts to 'break' around the muzzle and eyebrows and down the spine first. Both my bitches are rough coated...I find the coat becomes longer and rougher during the dogs' second winter. Quote Link to post
