FX Pellets

Recommended Posts

The other day i stopped in at a gun shop to get some pellets to try in the TX200. The shop i went to wasnt my usual, and i do think it is quite an expensive shop, but went in as i was passing. I bought a box of FX and a box of Accupells. The FX seemed to work very well in the TX, but it came at a price, and that price was 11.95!! :o (i bought a tin of .22 FX, a tin of .22 Accupells, and a tin of .177 Superdomes and it came to over £28!!) So im wanting to know, does anyone know of anywhere that sells FX pellets cheaper, or is that just how much the are generally??

Also, i was shooting targets with the TX last night and was getting good groups with the FX pellets (one group(out of about 15) was actually better than what i got with my S200 with Superdomes). I was shooting 5 shots with the FX, 5 shots with the Accupells and then 5 shots with Superdomes and so on. I know that when your gun is zero'd with one kind of pellet, it wont be bang on with others, but i was more interested in groupings. After a while the gun lost its zero with the FX, although still got good groupings. So my question is, when putting different pellets through your gun every 5 shots, is it possible for it to lose its zero? Maybe the scope and mounts im using are not suited to a springer. Im going to tighten the mounts etc up tonight and have another go, but failing that im just going to put the MAP Pro on it with the higher mounts and see how that works.

One more question, how much do you guys pay to get your gun chrono'd at a shop? Im wanting to know if the price the shop i was talking about is steep, as i think it might be.

Cheers

Hey there John,

Thats what I pay for them round here. AAF's are a quid or so more expensive and thats why I use FX's now.

If you want to be testing for groupings though John, 5 shots of each wont really do unless you clean your barrel between each pellet type and then fire a fair few to reline the barrel with that particular grade of lead.

I would be tempted to say that your scope may not be springer rated if its loosing zero, however:

I would first rezero your scope using the pellets you want to use it with and then fire 30 to 50 pellets and see if it moves again.

Be careful not to over tighten the clamps on the scope as you will wreck it if you 'Crimp' the scope tube.

Hope that helps.

Taken from another forum but it maybe usefull to you

I have lost count of the number of times I have seen shooters on a sighting in range with four or five different makes of pellets opened in front of them' date=' taking five or so shots with each type and then saying that their gun is not grouping.

Whenever a brand of pellets is changed (sometimes even different batches of the same pellet) or if the barrel has been cleaned then the barrel has to be "conditioned" to that particular pellet by putting at least ten shots (I do 20 to be on the safe side) through it before trying a group.

Different brands of pellets have different percentages of elements in them which affect hardness, coefficient of friction, B.C's etc which all have an effect.

Just thought a "Heads-Up" on this subject might stop a bit of frustration....................:D
