Both dogs are great gundogs, just depends on the trainer! Quote Link to post
Dan Newcombe 58
1st thing i would do is discount anyone that says one is better than the other. 2nd thing would be to ignore people who say that training a cocker is different to a springer. Same principle and exercises apply to both breeds but you have to tailor the approcah to the individual dog. Get Joe Irvings book on spaniels, i find it very useful Good Luck Quote Link to post

Lab 10,979
Having labs' myself i would never consider a springer/ cocker for picking up. I know people do but i like to work big strong labs for speed and stamina. Last year was a prime example in the deep snow why a lab would be better than a shorter legged dog like springer/cocker. For beating i would say the springer and cocker are much the same and it is down to preferance of what you like to look at rather than working abilities. I do like the really small cockers as they can get anywhere and stock fencing they can just go through instead of hanging on some barb Quote Link to post
