BenBhoy 4,706
hello everyone. i have been involved in aspects of shooting/hunting all my life (was a gamekeeper for my sins at one time in my life)but for whatever reason have never got into or had the opportunity to pigeon. that has all changed now so just after any advice really. what are essential buys? (i've got a gun before any smart arse pops up!) best cartridges? decoy types? just any tricks of the trade really, thanks for any help. Quote Link to post
dave1372 83
I won't bore you with a long list but as far as decoys go I prefer flocked decoys and I have two flocked pecking decoys to add a bit of movement to the pattern and that works well for me. As far as rotary decoy setups go I find that I do aswell without it as with it ..... so if you want one I am open to offers lol ! Keep it simple I say. Quote Link to post
BenBhoy 4,706
cheers for reply dave. by flocked you mean the shell type ones? i've seen demo's on using them at game fairs. are the full body ones much more effective than just the half shells? do you have to set them in any specific pattern? again from BASC wales fair i remember something about a horseshoe pattern... cheers. The flocked ones are the ones that are velvety instead of the plastic which gives a bit more realism. I have the shell ones and they work fine, the only reason I went for shell decoys is the take up less space for carrying as they can just stack on top of each other. You don't need many to start go for say 10 and then you replace them with real ones as you kills progress. In terms of patterns the most important thing to remember is they land coming into the wind so the front of the horsehoe points into the wind and ideally you position your hide along a hedgeline that gives you straight incomers or going away which keeps your shooting nice and simple until you get more experience.
