Well I'm going to try and describe how we net a ditch and ferret on our days out.We did a long ditch a few weeks ago and the system we use is a good 1 I believe. There are 4 of us going out together most of the time(a pair of youngsters well into their niteclubs sometimes miss the odd day)We had a ditch to do that was about 200 yards long,we started to put down the 18 ft field nets out from the ditch on both sides. We have about 25 nets and we place them about 30 feet apart. When we have them set we begin at the 1st net and run a pair of ferrets usually ans they work their way up the ditch usually bolting the inhabitants as they go.When we reach the 3rd net up the ditch we pick up 1 of the ferrets and bring him back to re-run the ditch again to make sure they have not overlooked any rabbits(but you can be sure a few are overlooked anyway)then when we are satisfied the most of the rabbits are accounted for we pick up the 1st 2 nets and move them up to the last set of nets we set, there are 2 of us doing this all day,we take turns at moving nets,as 2 are moving nets, 2 are watching up for bolters,we find this way keeps us busy and seems to keep the action going (presuming the rabbits are in supply)We find we can cover a large ammount of area this way and it looks quiet comprehensive to the land owner,on smaller ditches we can net the whole ditch and forget about moving nets till the place is finished. We find the way we do it we miss very little and the ditch is covered twice as we keep putting a ferret back two nets and he reworks a section that was just covered,I find when the ferrets are hot on the heals of a bolting rabbit they sometimes miss 1 or 2 that may be in a different area of the ditch,I hope you can picture this way of doing it and it makes sense to you,If anyone else has a different way or idea of covering a ditch/warren I would be very interested to hear it as I think I can still learn new ways and maybe add or adapt another mans way into our workings, kind regards,Jigsaw
