jpt 285
I am looking for more sport for my dogs but I dont know where to start. I work to rabbit but I want to do some ratting but I havent got a clue so any advice would be great. I bought the dvd 'Night and day with the Yorkshire Ratters' which is good but I dont know if my dog can mark rats like the dogs on that. I am always out mooching with them but have never come across any. Cheers, JPT Quote Link to post

Guest lady hunter
if you want some ratting just start asking the local farmers, but make sure your terriers are broken to stock, or you could ask your local shoot, we have some good ratting in the pheasant pens Quote Link to post
jpt 285
Oneredtrim, Hes had one more on the lamp since then so 3 in total. I took him out last night and it was perfect for it but he missed 2 easy sitters! I am just getting a bit pissed off with not catching anything and so is the dog! I want to get stuck into some rats because I know he will love that! I have got a lurcher pup now, she is 12 weeks tomorrow. Travelled 10 hours there and back to get her but by crickey it was well worth it! She is mental and will not stop attacking my irish terrier who isnt in the slightest bit bothered. Guest Ditch_Shitter
Find a Pig Farm and ye'll find more rats than ye'll know what to do with! :11: Quote Link to post
Guest Ditch_Shitter
I have a pig farm exactly 5 min's walk from my house two small field's away infact and they will probebly be more rat's in a operating theatre than they is on that place.. .. Blimey! So, what is it? One of these new soopa doopa, wood shavings 'factories', mate? No, I was thinking of the more 'Traditional', small farm sort. I was at one once - " Chalkwarren " likely knows of it. Along the start of the old Petersfield road. Proper old stone buildings and buckets of swill job. We were leaving there after dark and, as the motors headlights swept the entrance track and the hedges ..... I was Ever So glad I wasn't out there on foot! I shit ye not; There was liturally a seething river of f*ckin rats!!! Like a molten flow of Rattus Norvegicus. They were pouring down, out of the hedgerows and down the track. Heading for their suppers. Seriously! That was in the days before digital cameras. But if ye could down load the video of that moment that's been locked in my minds eye ever since? You too would stare, open mouthed. Johnny D and the black and tans? Him and his Dogs would've been eaten alive out there. Smoker 'n all! (Shudders!) Quote Link to post
