The start of the fishing season has seen a rise in the rat traffic into my lockup due to me having spilt a bag of groundbait i suspect but by setting a brace of fens just inside the door i am getting somewhere now and not seen or heard any sign in a week.Trapping used to be a big part of my life so its good to keep the eye in so to speak .

Nice pics Foxdropper and a job well done.

At the moment I have a bit of a rat problem around my own fowl pens. As I usually have a couple of young terriers with me when feeding I've decided to use a live trap to try and keep on top of them.

Instead of putting a bit of bait on the hook I sprinkle a bit of grain on the floor of the trap and am catching up to 3 at a time.

What's happening is the rats are squashing in to the trap and feeding. Eventually one will hit the hook and close the trap.

Anyone else ever do this?

I used to use the multi-catch trap, first one goes in and springs the trap, then the others go in the one-way flap at the back

I had it for a week and was catching 6-7 a night in the hen shed, they seemed to get the message after that and pissed off

It's one of them so called multi catch I'm talking about. I have a few of them and for years have baited them on the hook. IMO to call them multi-catch is a sales gimmick. In 20 years of using them I always caught one at a time. But by putting grain on the floor of the trap I've 9 in 4 days. Only 1 this morning though. Like i say, I do have a couple of young terriers with me.

If I wanted to sort the problem quickly then poison is what I usually use.
