matt_hooks 188
My FEO rang me today, to say that HQ had sent my application back to him, as the person I've put down as mentor for the .243 has been deemed unsuitable to act as mentor. Basically this is a friend, who has been involved in hunting and firearms all his life, and until a couple of years ago held a firearms certificate with several different calibres on it. Now a couple of years ago he decided he couldn't keep up the shooting as he was starting a new job (airline pilot) and so wouldn't have time, so he flogged off his rifles and let his FAC lapse. He had held it for over 25 years! So now, because he doesn't have an FAC at the moment, he's not suitable... What a load of pants! He won't be holding the rifle, I will be keeping it at my house, but obviously with him as mentor I won't be able to use it without him present. I don't see why he needs an FAC to mentor me. Does having a ticket mean he's somehow more qualified to mentor me? They even admitted that he was in principle perfectly suited as a mentor, if he still had his ticket. So my friend now has to reapply for his FAC (which I will cover some of the cost of) and I can't send my application in for the .243 until he has his FAC back, at which point they will grant it no further questions asked. So my only option is to send in for the .22 and the SGC, and then when my mate gets his FAC I need to put in for a variation (more time and cost)! I am, as they say, not a happy camper! Rake aboot 4,936
Jeez What an amount of crap some folk have to put up with. Should be standardised application across the UK based on how Lothian and Borders do it. Quote Link to post
