Just because something is heavier doesnt mean it has less power....think about it..flyweight boxer, moves his arms very fast when punching, the weight of the punch doesnt carry a massive amount of energy even though it travels fast. Heavy weight boxer, the speed of the punch is much slower but boy does the impact carry some weight.

 

Now apply this to the piston weight at the end of a compressed spring.

 

Its a carefully chosen piston weight based on the following:

 

Kinetic energy = 0.5 mass x velocity2

force = mass x aceleration

Pressure = force / area
