mole catcher 1
Tonight on the local news i see that the media have got it wrong AGAIN. A keeper on the Queens estate has been found guilty of trapping a owl with a fenn trap. Problem was he didnt cover it with a tunnel as he should have done. A bad bit of trapping by a man who should have known better. This is where i started to see red,The t@*t of a reporter then went on to say(more than once) that he,the keeper was found guilty of using an illegal trap. worse bit was when he then went on to state that these traps ARE ILLEGAL TO USE and that THERE ARE PROBERBLY HUNDREDS OF KEEPERS UNDERTAKING THERE WORK WITH THESE ILLEGAL TRAPS. For feck sake, when will those who are in a position to educate the masses to the facts, get there F@!*ing facts right befor spouting this load of s@*t. I then had to spend half an hour explaning to my kids that what i use are legal and he has got it wrong. dirty W@*$ers do my F@*!ing head in Quote Link to post
Guest Jane Russell
It depends a bit on how the report was worded. If they said "the traps were being used illegally" then the news report is correct. The emphasis being on the usage not the trap itself. If you are sure they said that the traps themselves are illegal then contact the local news people and tell them that they got it wrong. Demand they correct it on air for the benefit of the viewers ... etc. Get all your friends to do the same. Jane Quote Link to post
mole catcher 1
Thats very true in what you have said, wording is all important. My wife saw the run down of the news so recorded it for me to watch when i returned from work. he's wording was as follows Quote:A keeper was fined for using an illegal trap, unquote Quote: there is proberbly hundreeds of keepers using these illagal traps around the countryside, unquote. like you said Mrs Russell, had he worded it as being used in an illegal manner then he would have been correct in his statement. Perhaps im a little on the sad side for picking up on this but as i use a vast amount of traps in my work and try my hardest to inform people of there affectiveness when used correctly, it got under my skin somewhat. Its hard enough trying to rid the image that traps have as it is without this being on the national news, most people who know no differant still believe that all traps are like the old gin trap, leg holds and enduce suffering. Guest Jane Russell
There is a need to correct the news programme in largish quantities. I'm sure there are plenty of people who would join you in complaining - of course we'd need to know where to complain to  Jane Quote Link to post
Yokel Matt 918
The sodding press seem incapable of giving an impartial view of anything hunting related. Like you say this nob reporters 'story' will be taken as gospel by the majority who don't know any better. Quote Link to post
