Deben Long Range no good in steel drains !!!!

Recommended Posts

I had a dig on Monday that opened my eyes up to a serious chink in the Deben LR, we had a coon in a land drain, i collared my old bitch up with new batteries and put her in , when it came to locating her i was getting nothing, luckily the pipe only went back about 9 or 10 feet and then was crumpled so the coon could go back no further so with the aid of a torch we could view the dog and coon and were able to work out where they were and dig in the right spot, i always thought that the newer Deben units worked in such situations, its left me thinking that i should switch to the Bellman and flint or Barryvox system anyone else had such an experience

B+F doesnt work in steel pipes either

As i am obviously a complete novice, how the hell do you dig to a dog that's inside a steel pipe ??

And why would you even think too?

clay drains, even the occasional concrete section but a steel pipe !!! :icon_redface:

We cut through it with a digging bar, why would we ? because beggars can't be choosers, why would anybody put a dog in a big rock pile ? why would anybody put a dog in 15ft earth ? same reason, this was the situation that presented itself so we delt with it

Don't think he was asking why mate. Was asking how.

When I put a dog in a rock pile I have no intention of digging it out so I choose a dog accordingly.

Much the same as I would put a dog in a steel pipe and pray for a bolt.

I don't think any locator will work in a steel pipe. And i would never, ever dream of putting those Deben LR collars on a terrier. They are simply not good enough IMO. Deben should re issue the old collar and box, and the old ferret collar too.
