Guest Frank
Over here, young ferrets fetch 20 to 35 euro each in the summer. Most i have come across, seem to keep them well, but not too well hadled at times. I hadle mine daily, spend time talking to them ect, its amazing how they get to know your voice and come running when they here it. Frank. Quote Link to post
Kay 3,709
To be honest the rescue i support tell me 90% of ferrets handed in are from pet homes & kiddies pets they have had over a hundred kits in this yr alone as well as adults I think its right about not breeding every breedable jill every yr, infact why breed any of your jills if you dont need new stock, there are a few ways of keeping them healthy . Its such a refreshing change to read such comments like i read on here & i will say you working lads put a lot of the show fraternity to shame on your ferret housing & general common sence approach to keeping ferrets I have read some laughable posts on other forums from showey types , there only interested in the ferrets as long as there winning Quote Link to post
DiStuRBeD 0
who said they were from working homes anyway? who knows where they come from where i am from there is rarely ferrets in the paper for more then a few weeks, it seems they dont breed huge numbers here like over there. and they cost a hell of a lot more over here, from $50-100 each Quote Link to post
Kay 3,709
I dont think people breed ferrets to make money as if you do it properly the kits eat you out of house & home and its always nice if homes are found before they are mated, but i know from experience that by late june the rescues start to fill up with unwanted kits . no amount of education will stop some people from breeding ferrets even if they arent in a possision to offer them a correct diet & housing, then when the kits start to bite they dont bother at all & then either kill them or dump them. i think generally ferrets have a very low monetery value if you like , you can pick them up for a couple of quid, but there again you can pay a grand for a dog and neglect it, My last two ferrets lived to ages 9 & 10 & died of old age last yr, they ment no less to me once they had become old Edited November 22, 2006 by ferretlove Quote Link to post
Guest Ditch_Shitter
One point no one's picked up on here are the devious b*stards who pop up wanting to buy ferrets, every year, as soon as it gets a bit colder ..... Ask yeself, before Ever dreaming of entertaining such as these; What the f*ck happened to the ferrets they used last winter, and the winters before that? We all know damn well; Any youngster looking for his first ferret will be after a kit. And he'll soon have as many as he can handle. Why would a grown man be searching for stock at the on set of winter? What will he do with them, once the working season's over??? Quote Link to post
