The pup I got was weaned off her mother between 3 and 4 weeks using Weetabix and milk, then onto puppy food between 4 and 5 weeks. I really have no idea if that is the correct method or not but my pup appears to be doing fine at the minute. Im sure others on this site will have some suggestions for you soon mate.

As a general rule three to four weeks is about right. I like to get mine started as soon as possible feeding them fine chopped mince beef four times a day. I also like to worm them at two weeks of age and every two weeks after that.

Everybody's got to start some where, and some time to learn Dillon.

I agree Muddy everybody has to start somewhere, but people breeding working dogs who haven't got a clue how to rear them in my opinion shouldn't be doing it.

I agree Dillon, these are the basics that should be learnt before even contemplating breeding a litter

My pupshave just turned 3 weeks old on sat there and I gave them there first rusk the smorning wich went no to bad took a wee bit of time put it on my finger first though and let them suck it as if it was the mothers milk ended up with more of it om my trousers than in there bellies lol I also worm them every two weeks but I will be giving them 3 feeds a day strating now and keeping my bitch in with them till they learn to lap proberly then she will go out in to the kennel all day and back in to sleep with them at night so she can give them there last feed then she will only come in at night to feed them then back out to the kennel until there totaly weaned off

but as for people saying you shouldnt be breading unless you no what your doing well tell me this when use bread your first litter did uous ask others for help yes

this is my first litter ive bread and if it wasnt for two close freinds and my father then a would of done the same and asked on here

Tell me little terriers, what kind of dogs have you bred ? will they all go to working homes ? have you bred for yourself and close mates ? do you work them to ground or are they pets, they sound like pets to me the way you put a little bit of rusk on your finger for them, rusk and things similar is shit for pups they need to be on meat, just imagine canines in the wild going to the corner shop to get a bit of weetabix to start weaning their puppies, don't make me laugh.

I bred my first litter almost twenty yrs ago and have only bred four litters since, Its common sense as far as i am concerned when to start weaning pups, but then again who am i to argue the toss.

In my opinion, most lads who work their dogs have by far a better knowledge and understanding of dogs - (in fact animals in general) than pet pooch owners, it aint rocket science, I think for people to ask a question on a working dog forum such as the one that was asked means they have very little understanding of dogs and therefore shouldn't be breeding litters.

i work my dogs. they are not pets if i wanted pet dog a would of went and got a pomerinaian or something like that my dogs are jack russells and work to ground the reason i bread my bitch was for my self so that i could have a male jr as i dont see the point in buying one when the line that my jack russell is from is great every dog that has been bread from this line has worked not one of them has not worked which im pleased to say see the reason i put it on my finger is that it will incourage them to lick you dont just shove them straight in to it do you think babies are feed mince and tatties at 3mth old no dont thinks so not arguing with you some of the stuff you say correct yes but when my pups are good and ready they will get mixer and pedagree puppy and not before they will be stared of on rusks and moved on to weetabex and scrambled egg oh yes and all my pups will be going to working homes not pet homes the mother was bread to work so so will the pups

Pedigree Chum puppy .... biggest load of shite on the market, and yes bowl of mince in front of them and they soon start feeding off it, natural instinct mate, the smell of meat, guarantee your litter of russels have had a much worse start in life on their diet than mine did :D;)

At two weeks to six weeks I like to use Shirleys worming cream. WHY:- Because its friendly to their little stomachs and never upsets them at that young age, also it is easy to apply with a little bit put on their noses they will lick it off! or you can use the applicator which the cream comes in to apply stright into their mouths.

Shirleys worming cream does not come cheap!.

At eight weeks before they go to their new homes or what ever ones I'm keeping for myself I like to start them on Panacur upto six months of age when then they go on Drontal +. Please don't take this as the best worming method! Its the one I like and it suit me but not everybody will agree. People old and new who have been breeding pups for some time will have established their own tryed and trusted method's, which means everybody to their own ways and not for me or anybody to influence or tell them different.

All the best,

Muddy. :)
