I am just back from a long day out in the worst weather imaginable, lashing rain and strong wind. Anyway i wanted to try my young bitch today for her second time. After a while of searching she found her quarry. Left her to settle and then began to dig the 3 foot. Was through to her in no time fast on charlie. He was in very tight and she was giving it her all. We left her there and dug on more to get the fox out. Finally we got both the dog and the fox out and while the other terriers were having a rag at it she collapsed and looked lifeless. There was a stream near by and i ran as fast as i could to get her near the water. After like what seemed like an eternity we revived her. She is still a bit shakey on her back legs. I never got such a fright. She,s all tucked up now nice and warm so i'll see what way she is in the morning. Fingers crossed

It is usually a combination of things which can cause this. Her being unfit, the restricted air in a tight place and the adrenalin dropping which has caused her to be 'up' as it were. Sometimes you can help your Dogs out by ensuring you keep the area around their heads totally clear of Earth and Mud and don't try to draw the Fox with the Dog latched on, it is very early still and they will get fitter and stronger with work. If they collapse a good chest massage and clearing the Mouth and Throat of Earth will ensure clear airways. Fur can also get in there and clog things up. I have had a few good Dogs get killed through going in tight with their prey, it was good it was only 3 feet. If shallow enough it sometimes pays to drop a Bar hole into the area where they both are and help out with a bit of fresh air.

If she is bad enough to have to go under a Lamp REMEMBER they can also be bad for a Dog in shock. Do not let her dry out and, if you can, get some soluble Electrolytes. I have used a big 20ml Syringe with no Needle to force it into them.

Mucker the dog is fit. She's walked constantly. I don't know if she has a bad heart or not. Rang the vet and he said just get fluids into her and bring her to him in the morning if she's the same. I'll let ye posted

Just to let ye know that she is now doing well, running around, eating drinking. I'm one happy man

A happy ending for you Dunna, my mates dog had similar experience after a short dig he seemed to collapse and take a slight fit for a few minutes ,he was rushed to the vet who kept him in for scan of his heart and put fluids in him. He said the lack of air in the tube plus the adrenaline pumping caused it as one of the valves in his heart was not up to scratch, hes now retired, y/s Jigger.
